Apple’s new option for App Store developers to include links to external payment methods isn’t being embraced as much as expected, with only 38 out of roughly 65,000 developers applying for it. The requirement to get Apple’s approval and still pay a commission fee of up to 27 percent is seen as a hindrance. In a hearing, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers expressed skepticism towards Apple’s compliance efforts, calling them “a sham.” Developers also have to consider payment processing fees, potentially leading to even higher costs. This raises the question of whether Apple’s attempt to comply with the injunction is truly beneficial for developers or if it’s just maintaining the status quo for its own revenue.
