Google has been ordered to open up its Play store in the US following the Epic vs Google case, allowing third-party stores access and barring exclusivity deals. While this is a win for Epic and other store operators, Google will likely fight to maintain its dominance. It remains to be seen if players will embrace alternative stores or stick with the convenience of Google Play. The challenge for competitors is convincing users to switch habits in a crowded marketplace. Can three years be enough to change consumer behavior?
