The creators of Pixel Game Maker MV and RPG Maker have announced a new game engine, Action Game Maker, built on top of the Godot open source engine. This new engine aims to provide unrestricted access to Godot’s 2D functionality through a flexible scripting system. Transitioning from Godot 3 to Godot 4 allowed for the opportunity to enhance their API and address user feedback. With the previous RPG Maker Unite implementation on Unity being less than successful, it will be interesting to see how Action Game Maker powered by Godot fares in comparison. What potential challenges and benefits do you foresee in using a game engine built on top of another existing engine?
