The US Department of Justice has taken Apple to court, following the EU’s lead with the Digital Markets Act. The case aims to address Apple’s monopoly in the smartphone market and its restrictions on third-party apps and services. The DoJ’s actions are reminiscent of its previous case against Microsoft, which ultimately led to a more competitive landscape. However, it remains to be seen if breaking up Apple’s dominance will result in a better environment for consumers, or if it will change the Apple experience as we know it. Will challenging Apple’s practices ultimately benefit consumers, or could it risk changing the innovation and quality that Apple is known for?
