Valve’s introduction of controller support to Steam in 2018 has led to a significant increase in players opting to use controllers, with usage now at 15 percent compared to just 5 percent six years ago. Xbox gamepads are the most popular choice, followed by PlayStation controllers and the Steam Deck. As both PlayStation and Xbox continue to release their exclusives on Steam, the demand for controller support is likely to grow even further. It’s interesting to see how controller usage has become so prevalent on PC gaming platforms, and it raises the question of whether we will eventually see a shift towards controllers being the preferred input method for all types of games.
